As Aurora Tower navigates her red Jeep up the snaking dirt road to Dove Cottage, the villa she began building six years ago in St. John, it’s easy to see why the two-bedroom hideaway is an ideal place for the New York–bred Vanderbilt ­descendant to sidestep the society-­pages lifestyle. As the sun begins to set, a warm Carib­bean breeze is drifting in through the block-printed paisley curtains, and gentle rays reflect off the infinity pool’s surface, blanketing the home’s white interior in lazy afternoon light. “I guess I came here to grow up a little bit,” says Tower. “I just wanted the time to be with myself. Coming from such a structured, achievement-focused background, it’s something that ­appealed to me.
